6 spots in NYC to make you forget you’re in the city this summer

For surfers finding themselves in New York City, Rockaway Beach is a haven. It’s the closest beach to the city that offers up respectable surf, plus it’s got a pretty underground surf community and culture going on.
You’ll want to hop on the A train out to Far Rockaway (make sure it’s not a Lefferts Boulevard bound A) and from there you can either transfer at Broad Channel to the S to head towards the 90th Street hub or stay on the A and get off around Beach 67th street. 90th Street is the zone where you’ll find the classic Rockaway Beach Surf Club, the skate park and all the spots on the boardwalk.
